How much will I be paid?

It is absolutely FREE to register in order to start posting and selling your artworks on the Arto Galleria website. However, we do charge a commission on each artwork sold on the platform.

Commission:

We charge a 25% commission on the gross value of your artworks. This commission does not apply to shipping fees related to your orders, since these are directly linked to your own shipping costs.

Taxes on commission:

Each sale made on our platform is the artist’s sale, and not Arto Galleria’s. Arto Galleria acts strictly as an intermediary.

For Canadian artists who are not registered for tax purposes, the sales commission is not taxable.

For Canadian artists who are registered for tax purposes (GST and PST, or HST), the sales commission on artworks is taxable. For these artists, the provincial and federal taxes, or the harmonized tax, will be applicable on the commission (25% + taxes). Tax percentages can vary according to the province or territory in which the services were offered. Artists can then request a tax credit or refund on their income tax return for services offered by Arto Galleria.

Taxes on sales (for Canadian residents):

Canadian taxes are only collected on goods and services sold in Canada. For sales made elsewhere, no Canadian tax will be applied.

For each sale made to Canadian residents, the federal (GST) and provincial taxes (PST), or the harmonized tax (HST) will be applied. Tax percentages can vary according to the province or territory where the products are shipped.

See the chart below for tax percentages by province and territory.

Tax collection and remittance:

To know how taxes are collected and remitted, we must first determine if the artist is registered for tax purposes.

If the artist is not registered for tax purposes:

Arto Galleria will collect the sales tax(es) on behalf of the artist and will assume responsibility for paying the amounts owed to the appropriate governmental agencies.

Example:

*Arto Galleria will assume responsibility for paying the amounts owed to the appropriate governmental agencies.

If the artist is registered for tax purposes:

The artist who is registered for tax purposes must initially enter their tax registration numbers on their Arto Galleria Pro artist profile (for instructions, click here). For each sale made, Arto Galleria will collect the taxes on behalf of the artist and will include their total amount with the net revenue to be paid, according to the Payment Cycle. It then becomes the artist’s responsibility to pay all taxes owed to the appropriate governmental agencies.

Example:

*The artist must pay applicable taxes to governments via their own tax returns.

**The artist can request tax credits/refunds for services received by Arto Galleria when filing tax returns.

Note: To know if you should register for tax purposes, please refer to the relevant level of government or to a professional fiscal counsellor.

Important: It is the artist’s responsibility to provide accurate and complete fiscal information. Arto Galleria acts strictly as an intermediary and will in no way be responsible for any wrongful filing or omission in an artist’s tax returns.
